Mathis Guertin

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Mathis Guertin is a Montreal-based menswear designer whose journey began in sports before pivoting to fashion. Initially focused on his athletic career, the pandemic prompted Mathis to reconnect with his creative passion, and he enrolled in fashion school to learn the technicalities of garment fabrication and fitting. After graduating in 2023, Mathis’ designs began to reflect his love for minimalism, brutalist architecture, and queer fashion.

In 2024, he launched his eponymous brand, “Mathis,” with a vision to challenge the fast fashion industry and create a space for authenticity and inclusivity. His work is rooted in slow fashion, focusing on sustainability and allowing individuals to feel confident and unique in their own skin. Mathis’ designs embody a bold yet minimalist aesthetic, predominantly black with silver accents, where texture and intricate detailing add depth and sophistication.

Mathis’ creations challenge traditional menswear by integrating androgynous silhouettes and gender-fluid designs. His work blends sharp geometry and architectural precision, pushing the boundaries of conventional fashion while maintaining a sense of tailored refinement. Each piece is crafted to break gender norms, offering a sophisticated yet bold expression of individuality.

ECHOES OF US

Echoes of Us explores the impermanence of human connections—the way people enter our lives, leave their mark, and eventually drift away. Some pass through like whispers, while others stay long enough to change us before time pulls us apart. Even soulmates are not immune to this separation.

The collection reflects this philosophy through garments that embody both contrast and reconstruction: sharp architectural tailoring collides with fluid deconstruction, creating silhouettes that are at once rigid and vulnerable. The runway mirrors this duality—models in black and white looks approach each other from opposite directions, meet briefly in the middle, and then separate, embodying the fleeting yet transformative nature of soul encounters.

At its core, Echoes of Us is about acceptance: that people will leave, but their presence lingers in traces, memories, and echoes.
