amachiwayhk: The Air Collection

ᐊᔨᒪ / Ayimach presents the captivating amachiwayhk collection, which pays tribute to Air by exploring the intersection of fashion, contemporary art, and Indigenous futurism. Drawing from a rich tapestry of traditional customs, this collection reimagines materials and palettes to reflect aspirational visions of change. The name ᐊᔨᒪ / Ayimach, translated from Nēhiyawēwin (Cree), means "a fortunate change of events leading to success." In Michif, Amachiwayhk translates to "ascend." In the Air Collection, Jason Baerg channels the wisdom of the Northern quadrant of the medicine wheel, emphasizing the element of Air, represented by the colour white. This collection draws on the teachings of our Elders, embodying the spiritual and intellectual dimensions associated with Air, conveying themes of clarity, transformation, and new beginnings. Baerg seamlessly weaves Indigenous culture and values into each design, blending traditional aesthetics with modern silhouettes. Flowing forms, ethereal fabrics, and innovative cuts illustrate the essence of Air's movement and freedom, while subtle symbolic motifs pay tribute to ancestral wisdom and sacred teachings. Rooted in Cree Métis sensibilities and a forward-thinking vision, the Air Collection serves as both a celebration and a gift. It reminds us of the breath that unites us all and underscores our profound commitment to nurturing and uplifting our kin through all we do.
